Yoga and surfing go together like saltwater and sand. It is the natural flow of movement, breath, ocean tides and waves, which create that perfect match.
While surfing we need strength, a calm and clear mind and a strong connection with the natural forces around us. Yoga helps to connect with ourself and our environment and creates this balance of strength, fluidity in the body and clarity of the mind.
Acceptance and self-awareness play a very important role in Yoga, as you should not force any pose but finding the depth of the pose in the moment. Same for surfing, being fully in the moment and in tune with the ocean improves your focus and creates that inner peace which makes it more easy to catch a wave.
From a physical perspective, yoga creates more flexibilty in that areas which surfer need it the most. As surfer you need especially flexibility in the shoulders, back and hips to do certain surfing manoeuvres like paddling, pop up, compression and powerful turns. Yoga helps you open up the these areas and further trains your core strength, improves your balance and the functional ability of the body.
